Will not stay running

Asked by Spunright Dec 23, 2015 at 11:28 AM about the Chevrolet Silverado Classic 1500

Question type: General

I have a 1988 Chevy 1500 4 x4 and it will not
stay running we think it's something with the
carburetor and the fuel pump. How much
fuel pressure are you supposed to have and
what is our problem we haven't figured it
out.

I do believe there is a TBI on there, fuel pressure should be 9 to 13 lbs. Do a bleed down test on the fuel pressure, should not really drop much, possible fuel pressure regulator in the TBI, or leaking injectors. So if you put some gas or starting fluid down the throat will it run for a bit? If so good indication of a fuel issue.
