From my understanding, the 206 has a Rear Torsion bar suspension set up so there aren't any Ball Joints, Suspension Arms and Drop Links at the back? Check For Knackered Shock Absorber, Broken Road Spring. Possible Wheel Bearings? Is the knock all the time or just when hitting bumps?

Another one the 206 is fantastic for is the exhaust clamps (made of rubber) disintegrating over time and causing the entire exhaust system to sway happily under the car, bumping into everything. The rear suspension is indeed a torsion bar, if you've got knocking there I'd be worried.

The rear axles on the 306 used to be a weak spot as well. Must be a Peugeot thing
