i replaced alternator on my wifes 2005 ford explorer.i'd like to clear the codes.vehicle will not accelerate when pushing on gas pedal

On this model you just can't unhook the battery or you could wind up at the dealer getting a system reflash unless you already did that and now your having problems. The safest way is to have the codes deleted with a scan tool. Autozone can do this and some shops will do it for free. But you still may have other things wrong.
