In my 97 Ford fiesta when I step on the brake the engine dies. No fuses are blown.

Does it idle at all? Might be a bad idle air control valve. It allows an engine to "breathe" when you are not pressing the gas pedal. A bad IAC valve symptom is an engine that dies when you let up off the gas. It may not be from braking, but rather you letting up off the gas in order to brake. Of course it could also be something else entirely.

Check the stop light switch. Some of these are Duel switches or two separate switches.
