Why am I having difficulty starting my 2008 Mazda Tribute?

For several months I have experienced difficulty starting my 2008 Mazda
Tribute (65K miles).   Now, I have to be careful to insert the key using one
particular side only.   All dash lights and other functions are operable...the
thing just will not start.  Sometimes I hear a single "click"..usually not.  And,
it doesn't happen EVERY start....just most!   Before I head out to all the
expensive fixes...can anyone help ??  The vehicle is in otherwise excellent
condition.

Sounds like the starter. Same issue on my Chrysler van. Lived with it for a month holding my breath for final failure then just replaced starter. Voila! Fixed

Sounds like the ignition switch. My 2008 recently started doing the same. My husbands always warned me about the weight on my key chain and how it can wear the switch down. Guess he was right. I found that if I continuously hold pressure inwards while turning the key it will always start right up. If I just turn the key without pushing in, natta. Hope this helps.

My 2008 Mazda Tribute ignition switch went out and come to find out it was a recall. You can get that fixed by a Mazda Dealership for very little to none because it's a recall.
