why dosent my 2000 chevy malibu start i can turn the key it will crank over and once i remove the key the car will keep cranking over i have to hit the battery cable off for it to stop any answers

like the car turns over but once i turn key to off postion and take the key off it
still trys to crank over i have to take off the negitave cable from the battery for
it to shut off it dose have a theft system too but i just dont understand why it
still trys to turn over
