Identifying a 2000 Cavalier

Asked by Jan 30, 2017 at 03:53 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a two door Cavalier and I'm trying to diagnose a starting problem.
Problem is that I need to know which of the five types of Cavalier I have.
How can I figure out which one?

Base -- L4 - 2.2L vin 4 134ci 2190cc - MFI BI-FUEL OHV
Base -- L4 - 2.2L vin 4 134ci 2190cc - MFI GAS OHV
LS -- L4 - 2.2L vin 4 134ci 2190cc - MFI GAS OHV
LS -- L4 - 2.4L vin T 146ci 2392cc - MFI GAS DOHC
Z24 -- L4 - 2.4L vin T 146ci 2392cc - MFI GAS DOHC

I'm fairly sure that I have one of the base models as my Cavalier logo
would have included a "LS" or "Z24" but I'm not certain on this.

Any help would be appreciated

Visit your local Chevy Dealer with your vehicle identification number (VIN). They should be able to decode it for you and tell you which model you have. The engine code is the eighth character of the VIN. HTH. -Jim
