My 2000 Chevy cavalier has had a check engine light on for years and auto zone told me that its due to an emissions leak. I replaced the gas cap and replaced the gas filter with no success.

My true issue now is that I have to step on
the gas to start it up and lately it takes 2-3
attempts for it to start and I often grind my

Turn key on and off about 3 times then see if it starts if it does the check valve on sending unit in tank needs replaced

It could be you fuel pressure regulator. Very common.

Thanks @TransAm77 it appears that it was the fuel Pressure regulator, changed it out and it has been working 100 times better.
