My 87 4 door cutlass want stay in park
I just put a transmission in my car. And it changes
gears. But it once I move out of park it want go
back in park. What could be the cause of this.
1. This could be a broken brake-shift interlock. Normally, you press the brake peddle to get out of park, but don't have to press the brake to go back into park. A broken mechanism can prevent the shifter form moving in both directions. 2. Could be a broken or stretched shift cable, a failed solenoid, or even a worn ignition switch blocking the shifter return to park.
All of what Ed said plus the linkage may just not be adjusted properly. As long as the transmission you put in was working properly it is most likely adjustment or a bad electrical connection or damaged wire.
