my car keeps getting hot . i pull over and wait a few minutes then start driveing an the gage goes down. i cange the theromaste an its still doing the same thing. could it be the water pump or heater core becouse theres no heat now

Good coolant, bad flow. Could be a defective water pump. see if there is any play in the main shaft of the thing and it's probably time for a new one anyways....I'd put my money on this solution.

If for whatever the reason, the coolant was lowered may have introduced air into your coolant loop and will need to be belched now..let's hope the new waterpump will fix ya, and you don't have a corroded water jacket~
