Cold morning start

Asked by madambrafford Dec 12, 2019 at 05:30 PM about the 2008 Dodge Charger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Dodge charger, in the mornings when
it's cold the motor will rattle but once it warms up,
it's fine, it will seldomly have a rough idle for a few
minutes but not anything too bad but is abnormal,
we also had a problem with the rack and pinion and
is currently being replaced, however why is my
motor rattling on a cold start???

Also my oil light comes on, but only during the morning start

would look at the temp sensor on the snorkel~ the oil may be the wrong grade, if there is an oil pressure gauge would be sure that there is enough pressure~

How cold is it and what oil are you using?

I suggest a molybdenum oil additive which will make a film on the moving parts and give critical lubrication at startup. Do review the oil weight you are using to make sure it is appropriate for your winter temperatures.
