Factory radio issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently purchased a used 2001 Chevy
impala that had a few issues, but seemed
small and insignificant. First, the stereo had
already been replaced with a non factory
stereo. I had no idea of how many issues
this could cause. Turn signals don't always
work, doesn't always start, car vibrates at
high speed (on interstate especially)...just to
name a few. Can I fix the mjor problems by
replacing the stereo with a factory one and
if so, do I need to look for a specific one?
Other than for the make, model, etc. Thanks
in advance!

it sounds like you have multiple issues: Turn signals, and not starting could be an issue with the ECU, and or wiring (possibly related to the stereo install, however not likely due to the number of plug in harnesses available for that car and aftermarket stereos) Rough riding could be due to your suspension, tires, and/or hubs.

Could it possibly be a security issue due to the factory radio being gone? I've been researching the passlock feature and I feel like maybe it could all be connected somehow. Do u know of a way to disable or bypass this without the factory radio?

Yes… There is a way to bypass the pass lock function on the radio, however that is not what is causing your issue.

Will installing a factory radio help with these issues? Or is it something worse? If I need a factory radio, does it matter if it has CD player or tape deck? And is there a specific code for each model that I need to look for?
