1979 Cougar

Asked by Oct 16, 2017 at 12:42 AM about the 1979 Mercury Cougar

Question type: General

I have a 1979 Cougar. It will run for a little
while and then it will start to cut out and die.
I have changed the temperature sensor and
coil packs and it still does it. Can someone
please let me know what is wrong with it.
Thank you.

Have you repalced the ignition module? When these start to fail they will run fine until they warm up then they will quit running until it cools of the start al over again.

Yes I did and it's still doing the same thing.

Have you replaced the Distributor pickup coil? What coil are you running? The 6-9 volt or the 9-12 volt? They do show 2 coils, 1 is the long cylindrical unit and the other the rectangular unit.
