i was told i needed to reset my computer to make the 4 wheel drive work how can i do that

Disconnecting the battery might reset things.

On an 02 thats right disconnecting the battery resets the computer system. But you may have a transfercase shift motor that is in failure also, so if the reset doesn't do it then check to,see if the motor will run, you may have to take it off and have some cycle the 4 WD button so you can see if it runs, just make sure you put the actuator pawl back into,the same position it was in when you removed it or you will really mess things up.
