Transmission Fluid check

I have a 3500 chev van conversion with 8.1L engine. Do you checkthe transmission fluid level with engine on or off.transmission in park or in drive?  johnl1029@yahoo.com

I normally check the transmission fluid with the vehicle running but in park after going thru the shifting pattern.

I don't think you want to check the fluid in the Drive position !
