How many miles should a trailblazer or any SUV get? I want to buy one and it already has 212,000 miles on it.

Asked by Lfields May 16, 2012 at 07:49 AM about the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Question type: General

needs brakes soon, needs tires and a little service, but good condition

it all depends on how the vehicle was driven & taken care of. 200000 + miles is alot for a 2003 . you're looking (if it hasn't been done already) at a timing chain and transmission, if you see smoke out the exhaust then maybe a new engine.

My 2008 ENVOY has 280,000 and has only needed 2 water pumps. Still running great! Going to drive the wheels off! and then just buy new ones! Mostly city miles too. With only moderate maintenance.

I am also curious about the highest mileage on a trailblazer. I have a 2004 LS with 216,000 miles on original engine and transmission. No major problems, just regular maintenance.

The Vortec engine was one of the best designed engines and won awards for it. If you take care of it, it will last you a long long long time.

I have a 2003 and my service 4WD light came on and it was just the transfer motor for the 4WD! Easy fix and price wasn’t bad either!

There was no Trailblazer in 2001 it would have been an S10 Blazer they are two totally different vehicles. Although I think in 2001 the Trailblazer was a trim package on the S10 Blazer. It can get pretty confusing.

I have a 2002 Trailblazer with 469,200 miles on it at present. It is not using any oil, has always had regular 3000 mile oil changes. The way that it runs, there is no reason that i cannot get 500,000 miles out of it. It is important to note that it has not been babied, although a lot of the miles are highway miles. I frequently pull a 25 foot Lighthouse Camper Trailer (lock in transmission in 3rd gear) and often have pulled U-Haul trailers with a piano in the trailer as part of my business. I love the engine!

I inherited the car at 16. Weve had it since I was 6. Taken it to Sinaloa Mexico from Texas about 5 times, Florida 2 times, California 2 times, and Chicago. we got to 300,000 when I was 10 and replaced the engine now it has 200,000. Crashed it at 16 parked it for a year. Fixed it up , changed the oil, installed new fan, speakers, radio, compressor, lights, window, and other minor parts. It seems like a hastle however this car has one of the best communities out there and chevy pessed up on their accuracy but not their precision. You will undoubtedly find someone else with the same problem online. Many parts have broken but I cant realky blame a twelve year old car.It truly is one of the last of an era of such reliable cars that combines technology and good old fashioned mechanics. Engine is simple and meant to last. Great car for travel, ranches, tailgating, and daily driving. I really see this car lasting another 500k and heck if the engine breaks down again you can bet that youll find an engine replacement for 200 to 300 now a days.

I'm looking at a used 2003 Trailblazer that the owner has put a good amount of work, including rebuilt trans, new tires, brakes, etc. in the past couple of years. 161k mileage. Asking 5495. Thoughts?

I wouldn’t do that. Price seems high. My friend bought an 02 (envoy) from an elderly couple 3 years ago with 54k for $6,000. He put 76k on it in 2.5 years with a 450 mile round trip weekly and commuting to work. Never any issues besides regular maitanence...fluids, spark plugs, and a coil pack. I bought it 6 months ago for $1,500 with 130k. It now has 144k with no real issues. Original engine and trans. It has also ran full synthetic for the last 90,000 miles. It left me stranded once about 6 hours from home bc my fuel pump went out but shit happens ‍♂️ You anticipate these problems after 100k. I do need another coil pack and I’ll most likely do the spark plugs again but that’s it. I take it from Chicago to Indy or Bloomington indiana frequently and it does amazing. 2300rpm with the cruise set at 87 mph. I average about 18.5 mph. I only bought it since I missed having an suv, but I’m shocked I’ve fallen in love with a car so old.

I am looking at a 2006 Trailblazer LT in good condition with 65K miles, literally driven by an elderly couple. Asking 3000. Sounds like a good deal to me. Any thoughts? I typically buy from a dealership but this car seems in fine working order.

If its in good shape on the body and they did any kind of maintenance at all on it , yes its really a great deal for something with that few miles on it . With good maintenNCE these can go over 200K without issues .

Great, thanks so much. It has hardly a blemish and all the bells and whistles. Well maintained as well with new tires. She doesn't feel comfortable driving anymore, bless her. I am buying it tomorrow. Thanks so much for the feedback vipergg.

Im interested in this real clean 2007 LT 4wd Trailblazer it has 163,000 miles on it . Anything I should be aware of when looking at it and is that mileage typical for a 12 year old rig?

There are some others in this string that know much more than I do about mileage but from what I have seen in these replies if kept in good condition with regular oil changes the engine can go well over 200-300K miles. They are favorable to the engine Chevy used in the TB.

I have a 2009 Trailblazer with 282,000 km and the transmission is just starting to act up. I am thinking about rebuilding the transmission because the engine has been so good and still shows no signs of quitting.

I posted almost a year ago about my 2002 Trailblazer with 469,000 miles. It now has 494,300 on the odometer. The engine still has not been opened, and does not use any oil. This summer I towed a 5 x 8 U Haul Trailer with a piano in it from Illinois to Denver 950 miles, unloaded the piano, and we drove 1,000 miles in the mountains of Colorado before returning home. I have towed my 25 foot Keystone Lighthouse Camper four times this summer. GM has told me that they would be interested in inspecting the vehicle when it reaches the 500,000 mile mark. If they make me a really really good deal on something new, I might just take them up on it; otherwise it's just a matter of finding another used Trailblazer with fewer miles because I know that i can't expect this one the last forever (even though it literally drives like new!(

I too have an 2002 Chevy Trailblazer LTZ exactly like yours and it's at a hundred and sixty nine thousand miles is currently in the shop right now I'm having to replace the seat I'm having to replace the four-wheel- drive this is the first tune up that I'm having and I've had the car for years it still runs great I'm had some wiring issues in terms of the back windshield wiper they gave out on me but I'm having that done to I put a lot of money into my vehicle so the issues that I'm having are just basically you're wearing tear but people were asking me when I get a new car I love my car my car's name is cash and I could not see myself with another vehicle or replacing cash so I'm just going to keep the maintenance up on cash and go from there!

I've had my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer since January of 2005. She now proudly has 222,979 miles on her. She is Ms. Dependable in my eyes. I bought her with 40,000 miles on her. She has been running on synthetic oil for the past 10 years or so. The only things she has ever required in our 15 years together has been spark plugs, batteries, tires, oil changes, brake changes, fluid flushes and changes, power steering cooler (rock popped it open), idler pulley arm, shifter cord popped off once (no part needed), coil packs replaced once, and a new light board for her rear tail passanger tail light. I've always ran with top tier replacement fluids, parts, and plugs. I love her! With her higher miles, she is now in rotation with my Ram 1500 (who is a complete brat and always needs something done). The Trailblazer is always the one taking me to Autozone for the Ram! Lol.

I bought a used 4.2 online 6 cyl. trailblazer 5 yrs ago w/ 190,000 miles. I changed the oil religiously every 5,000 miles(royal purple synthetic). Checked the oil from time to time just to make sure all was kosher. Besides normal wear and tear, brakes, etc.....i did nothing but drive the wheels off of that truck.... the only thing I can say is they started building that truck on a Wednesday and ended on a Wednesday, because the transmission finally went out at 350,000 miles. If I wouldn't have drove it home with only first and second gear (as it fried the electrical system) it would probably still be on the road today, and this just happened 4 weeks ago. (Feb 1st, 2020) to all Trailblazer owners...keep that oil changed and it will keep you on the road!

I got a 2007 Isuzu Ascender original owner just hit 70,000. Motor is strong trans is smooth. Recently changed break pads and rotors, motor mounts, spark plugs, New upgraded GM cam position sensor. Upper and lower control arm, Sway bar end links front and back, end links MOOG. KYB Ready Struts and shocks. Sway bar bushings. Serpentine belt, air filter K&N washable one. A.C blendor and control circuit Don’t forget to clean throttle body ( I just cleaned and runs like a champ) Everything dry rots living in Hawaii. I did all this to keep truck running like new and it does. No rust at all paint still good and looks new. Transmission flush thru cooler line next. All parts from Amazon The 06 -07 has 291 HP and I blaze down on freeway 100 miles easily. GM don’t build trucks like this anymore 4160E trans LL8 motor is pretty much bullet proof. It will last. Not like the GMC Arcadia transmission problems blown head gaskets. This was the last of GM quality and why I spent less then $1,800.00 to keep it going. I drove so many new suv’s and don’t want one. these older GM were build to last rear wheel drive truck frame. Better ride and lots more power than my wife’s 2019 Rav4. I do all my own work it is so easy to work on. GMTnation got free service Manuals to download on everything part of this car. Don’t make a mistake thinking a newer car is better. Nope these will last forever. Best car I ever owned and always and never stranded. GM built these well. All motors on the dyno at testing went 300,000 trouble free on the 2002 ll8. I love my Ascender It’s unique and it is really a chevy. Easy to fix on your own. I am not a mechanic. It will keep running forever. It loves new oil and fluid flushes

I got BABY cheap (04 Trailblazer, 2wd 6cyl, Black, grey interior ) and she had been abused under the hood. She had 274,800 miles on her. Her control arms, struts, brakes rotors were all worn and clanging. Her coils and spark plugs were corroded. But she looked pretty and she sounded very nice when I drove her. She was high enough for my 6’4” guy, and a bit too high for me (5’4”) I couldn’t tell she had no brakes. Her battery and alternator died within the first 3days. I have had all those things fixed within 3weeks of buying her and she runs like a champ! Passed Smog like she was brand new! I am no longer with guy ( he trashed talked Baby and ME!!) but I LOVE BABY now! And she’s more reliable than a man. Next I’m working on her paint, it’s got bubbles in the clear coat, In places. Gonna try Mother’s Clay 2.0 and some other stuff. With the ash from the California fires, I need to protect her!

In answer to how long the Trailblazer will last. My 2002 is turned 380,000 last night, runs great, burns no oil, has power to spare. The service 4wd light comes on, goes off, comes on. I will be having that checked out next week, snow is falling. Other than that, no issues whatsoever. Love this truck.
