08 Cadillac DTS, with Small oil leak.

Asked by Guru163FK Sep 26, 2019 at 06:00 PM about the 2008 Cadillac DTS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Common oil leak in my 08 Cadillac DTS...(8 cyl. Northstar engine).
Very expensive to repair!!
I was told that using a thicker synthetic oil, with a stop oil leak product
(Lucas?)  would slow, or repair the leak!
Do you think this might be true, and what else can you suggest?

This might work or might not. What is the actual leak source?

The magic in a bottle seldom performs miracles. Get the leak fixed, get rid of the car or live with it.

Cadillac Northstars are know for oil leaks, quick fix in a can or heavier oil won't work and may in fact cause more problems. Best to either get the real problem fixed or get rid of it. Finally convinced my wife to give up her Cadillac Northstar it was becoming a money pit even though we had the engine and tranny replaced some 5 years ago, other stuff just started breaking. She can now drive her new car a month on what we were paying for fuel in one week on the Cadillac(premium fuel)
