HOW DO YOU GET THE ENGINE LIGHT TO COME OFF WHEN YOU CHANGE A PART

The code will clear itself after a determined number of start cycles. Once the ECU sees the code has been cleared after the number of cycles has been met, the CEL will clear as well.

Follow Bob's suggestion and clear it with a code scanner. They are relatively inexpensive to purchase. If you prefer not to purchase one, go to Auto Zone and ask to borrow one. One of their sales staff may choose to come to your car and use the scanner himself. If so, once the code comes up, ask the staff person to clear the code. He will likely tell you he is not permitted to do so but he might turn a blind eye and show you the button for you to push in order to clear the code.
