Gonna replace engine in a 1998 chevy truck 5.7 vortec with 1984 chevy truck engine what do I do with the crank sensor wire
You will need to run the 84 engine with it's original ignition set up. You can't use the 98 ECU with an old engine. BTW - your truck will never pass smog inspection again.
I'm gonna swap the heads from the vortec to the 84 engine just need to know if I have to do anything with the crank sensor wire
Your going to need the crank sensor to tell the computer where each cylinder is at during the revolutions, so you will have to make up some way to mount it properly. It won't run without it.
I'm gonna use the distributor from the 84 engine so do I still need the crank sensor?
If you use the 84 distributor then the computer wont even know the engine is even attempting to start without the cam signal to compare with the crank signal, so the injection won't fire, and if the spark did work it would not even be close. Explain just what your trying to do. Are you wanting Vortec heads on an 84 engine using all the electronics of the 98 system that is already there. Am I even close?
I think your Frankenstein engine will be a lot of problems.
