I know someone with a 2005 Audi the car was
running fine but then it ran hot and white smoke
was coming out the hood now it won't crank
darn, so do you want to know what caused it? You didn't ask a question. I suspect the car overheated due to coolant leak or one of the parts of the system failed allowing the engine to overheat, spewing coolant over hot engine and exhaust causing white smoke and getting the electronics and wiring wet not allowing it to start. If the car was driven with this condition for any length of time and not pulled over right after it happened, your friend might be looking at a new engine vs just replacing some coolant and parts.
I know someone too. Have your people get in touch with my people.
