i have a 2004 Chev. Venture Minivan heating up

when vehicle idles for about 30-45 minutes the temperature gauge raises significantly pass the middle.  it will only return to normal whenever i turn the ac conditioner on and the other fan comes on.

I would change out the thermostat and see if that makes a difference. It may be getting old and won't open unless the engine gets hotter. If you replace the thermostat and see no visible change, I would then change out the radiator temp sensor. Not an expensive part. Usually easy to put in.
