Transmission linkage repair

Asked by JimmyCorn May 18, 2012 at 02:52 AM about the 1988 Pontiac Fiero

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an opportunity to buy an 88 fiero that needs new transmission linkage for 600 dollars. Is it worth it? How hard would this be as a do it yourself project for a rookie?

What "linkage" is it the shift linkage? If so you can purchase what you need to rebuild the shift and select are as well as replacement shift cables from rodneydickman.com. I don't know how hard that will be as I have been lucky enough to not have to replace those components on my fiero. Check the car for rust etc before you buy. If the car runs, I'd say its a bargain at $600, especially if you just need new cables or something.
