My hummer sometimes will not start like it doesn't want to fire up. Wait 10 min and it starts.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

maybe is the fuel pump

I would say the fuel pump is a good place to start. sounds like its not building up good fuel pressure.

to test the fuel pump/filter, have the truck off, then turn the key to acc/lights come on, but not the engine, some models you will hear a low gurgle sound, for a few seconds, turn the key off, then repeat the process again, then off, then start it, to see if the system is just needing more pressure to be primed...

My 2006 hummer h3 is doing the SAME thing, did you find out what was wrong with yours??

Seems to work if you sit and wait. But its a bummer as who wants to wait when you want to get going.

I Have a 2004 Hummer H2 that will not crank at times. I will drive it then put it in park sit with it running for a short period of time. Shut it down for under 5 minutes then jump in try to start it and NOTHING. Lights and all electronics come on but it will not turn over. I hear a slight scratch like sound when turning the key all the way to crank. It's not the Battery, Not the Neutral Safety switch, Not the Starter or the Starter Solenoid. But After sitting for a little while it suddenly starts. We are about to replace the key ignition itself. It like maybe something is getting hot then cooling off or something. ANY IDEAS??

Did anyone find the real reason the H3 will not start and in ten minutes starts right up...If it's a factory problem it should be a recall...

I had the same problem and they think the problem is a temperature sensor that was sending faulty readings to the computer. It was thinking that the engine was too cold and sending fuel to the motor causing it to flood.

I also have the exact same curse. It cranks and seems like the battery is working but it won't efffing start. I have to wait at least 10 minutes. What the heck is going on. Is there anybody that solved this?

I have the 2006 hummer h3 and I switched out the relay for the fuel pump number 66 with another one and she fired up.hummer was down for a few days but all good now.

It was easygoing in your engine compartment open the fuse box look At your fuse box panel diagram and find number 66 fuel pump relay switch it for now with another one with the same part number on it, your hummer should fire up with a crank no start issue.bad relay.

#66in the fuse panel switch it out for a min with maybe your rear defrost relay your hummer should fire up.

I've had the same problem for 4 1/2 years on a 2006 H3! If you wait exactly 10 minutes, it starts just fine. Had fuel pump and sensor changed. Twice! Because they thought first one was faulty since I still had the problem. Then they thought it could be the ignition and/or the passlock. Apparently, the passlock is what thinks your car is being stolen and shuts it down for 10 minutes. However, they are each $600 and no guarantee that either is the problem and the car is out of warranty. Haven't done either. Has anyone with the 10 minute thing actually found a solution???

I have the same exact problem. I have a 2006 H3 with 65,000 miles on it and same thing happens. I go to start it up and it turns over but doesn't start. I wait exactly 10 mins and it starts right up. I don't think it's the fuel pump, I think it has something to do with the security system. The car thinks it's being stolen.

The ten minute wait period is defiantly security problem. When the vehicle will not start check the security symbol on your dash and if it is flashing then that is the problem. I have a 06 H3 and replaced the ignition switch and was better for awhile but started doing it again today. Another thing to try is take dielectric grease and put on all of the connections for the security and it might work.

I have a 2008, H3 Alpha, and for the past two years I have had a similar problem. 1. Drive Hummer, shut off, get out. 2. Return some time later, attempt to start..no crank, yet all dash lights illuminate and the accessories work. 3. Thinking it was a slightly discharged battery, the first few times I tried to jump start...with no success. 4. Like magic after 10 minutes it fired right up, as if there is no problem. I bought a new battery, had it in the shop three times...no diagnosis because I can't replicate the problem. One constant is that it only happens in cold weather. Any advice...

just turn the key over till your lights come on wait 2 seconds then start...

I have heard of one repair is to run wiring directly from the ignition switch to the Body control module for the security wring to eliminate the extra connections. The problem is cause by high resistance in cold weather.

I agree. It is the GM Pass-Lock system part of the ignition switch. I had the exact same issue and tried cheap online bypass to the pass lock system. The only true fix for the problem is a GM dealership maintenance department Replace Ignition Switch. Problem went away going on 2 years ago and still good to go. This should be a recall and we should all ban together for a class action suit against GM, for once again instalcentsling the faulty units in 2003-2008 H3 Hummer ... . My total replacement cost (in Hawaii) $450.00 and they have to re-flash your ECM-Electronic Control Unit (engine computer) to learn the new ignition.Just my 2 cents...

Mine did same thing was the battery would set off alarm and had to wait 10 min before start. If not check ignition switch may need replacement.

The problem, you are entering and starting the vehicle in a manner that makes the passlock think the vehicle is being stolen. Solution, lock the vehicle, make sure all doors are closed, unlock the vehicle from the driver side with the ignition key... the vehicle will start normally.

I had the same problem with my 2007 H3. It happened once, then about 6 months later, then about a week later, and then every couple of days. It took me a little while to figure out the problem, but with searching online I figured out it was the ignition switch. The pass lock system thinks the car is being stolen. I started noticing that on the dashboard there is a symbol with a car and a lock and that would flash red as well as a small light by the radio controls when the car would not start. After about 10 minutes the car starts with no issue. I had the ignition replaced and then re-programed for about $350 with a mechanic and have not had a problem since. When I was researching about replacing the ignition I thought that it might be a good idea to go through a dealership but they would not replace anything without diagnosing the problem themselves. Well, that was an issue because first of all I knew what the problem was and second of all it is such an intermittent problem. Anyways, hope this post helps others that are having the same problem.

Hi All, Thank you for adding your views here, this has been invaluable in getting me to a fix and solution. I have FINALLY solved this problem with help from a module i bought online. If anyone from South Africa is looking for this solution, please contact me as i have done this successfully, and can confidently offer my services. +2780.099.3361 Anyone technically minded out there , the NEWROCKIES solution solved my problem first time round. ** Just a side note, i also had a problem with the fuel relay, but only come to notice that it wasnt the relay itself, it was one of the pins that the relay plugs in to the was/ is faulty. i just made a quick plan with that, NOTE : this was separate to the Passkey situation of ten minutes a time ( if the little security light is flashing, then the passkey is your problem - If this is does not flash, and your car just swings over, then its your fuel relay etc.... Kind Regards, Kirwin

Concerning pass lock problems for H3 Hummers, This has been extemely frustrating having to wait 10 minutes after a you try to start the vehicle and you get nothing. I bought 2 hummer h3's and was considering buying a caddy before I retire, but this will never be now. I have been studying the no start pass lock for some time now. What I have done is the following. Spray the ignition switch where the key enters the ignition switch with a good cleaner. Then if you put in the key and take it out you will see the grime on your key. After you clean your key, repeat this process until the key comes out of the ignition pretty clean. Then spray a little lubricant like graphite in the ignition switch. You should feel the difference on the key. Then start your hummer up. The second part I found out is if you keep pass lock off, you can start the vehicle and I have done this. What you should do is never use your remote as this will turn on pass lock. Example, get out of vehicle and lock your vehicle while using remote at the same time looking at the gauges. You will see the red passlock light come on for a few seconds. That means your pass lock is on. If you try using the key to open your door, passlock will engage and you will hear the horn sounding intermittenly. You have to then use your remote to disengage passlock. Just avoid using your remotes. Press your door lock switch to lock the doors and shut the door. Then use your key to open door and use the interior automatic lock to open all doors. . You will find you can start your hummer this way. So far, I have done this and my vehicle starts every time. This is not a fix to the passlock, but will save you much frustration having to wait to start your vehicle. In the mean time, GM, has failed to make this right. I bought 2 vehicles from them in good faith and not happy with them.

2006 H3 have suffered through this issue for 6, 7 years and spent around $1000.00. I was told by someone in the business when you call GM customer service whether you are the 1st or 100,000 caller they are trained to reply as if they have Never heard the complaint before. I have had the 2006 H3 for almost 10 years. Over the past 3 years mine has been having the same issues. Initially, it began only in cold weather every few months. Now, I live in a warm climate and it is happening weekly. I have had the coolant system, temperature gage, spark plugs, coils, Oil sensors, and more fixed on this car to fix the issue. Due to it being an intermittent problem, the automotive repair places have been unable to make an accurate diagnosis, resulting in thousands of unnecessary repairing costs on my part. This issue has become very frustrating. After reading these posts, I do not see how they cannot make a recall. This is ridiculous.

2008 H3 I had the this problem of turn the key and nothing, wait 10 to 15 minutes sometimes longer and it starts right up. after a lot of guesses and money came down to a connection to the control module and connector block, repaired the connection with new terminals in the block and never had problem again, this took about a year to find.

Hi all, this is a very simple issue and actually not an issue at all. Its part of the security system in the Hummer H3. If you enter the vehicle in an improper manner, for instance the alarm is set but the windows are down and you open the vehicle from inside or unlock it without the key then try to start it etc. there are many scenarios where this can happen... the security system will prevent the vehicle from starting for 10 minutes. If you continue with the shenanigans it may be more. When this occurs at least try to learn what you did to cause it (maybe also need new alarm FOB key battery or FOB altogether). Then simply exit the vehicle, lock it with the key in the driver side door, wait a few seconds, then unlock the vehicle with the key (in the driver side door). this should allow the vehicle to start without issue.

Discover chafed wires at body just below rear door and disconnect trailer connect pigtail ... Attempt to start vehicle and it won't start. Check fuel pump relay by switching with others and it checks out good. Check fuel pump fuse and it's good. Not hearing fuel pump prime during startup. It cranks and runs like a champ. How do I fix this?

Guys, our gm service department here in south Florida figured it out. The problem is the ignition mechanism. Some original parts will have a glitch with the alarm system. When turning they key, you can see if alarm is locking the vehicle. Our solution was to replace the ignition and it never happened again (I almost sold the truck over these, so if you want a solution, this is it). I will post tomorrow the detailed part # and the exact sign gi en in the dashboard. Please note, no inspection or device will detect this issue. If the dealership mechanics run their computers, the error won't be identified. Again, will post more details tomorrow...

Dumb question. Can u bypass this by simply not using keyless enty. Just bought an 08 yesterday. Hopped out to vacuum got back in and nothing. Thank u ppl on this site. I pulled the fuel pump relay for a sec and it started. Or are the relay and security two different problems?

2 people found this helpful.
10

Okay, I think there is an easy workaround. You just need to roll down the window, and try starting it again, it should work. I think it has something to do with the electrical in the vehicle. Mine start working right after I rolled down the driver side window.

60

Mine has done this and it also does something strange. Car off, windshield wipers off, crank car and it cranks fine, put it in gear and it shuts off and the windshield wipers come on, put it back in gear wipers shut off. Turn car off, turn car back on, cranks fine, put it in gear and the car shuts off and the wipers turn on. And this repeats over and over.

Its NOT the fuel pump. Its a security issue. It thinks its being stolen and won't allow it to start. Yes, wait 10 minutes and it will start right up, but if you try to start it before the full 10 minutes, you have to start the waiting time over. There is a recall, however not on my particular VIN. Its annoying because you HAVE to always plan to be 15 early because if you turn it off, its not guaranteed to start.

I have a 2009 Hummer H3X model and also have been having the same problem occasionally not being able to start the vehicle. After 10 minutes it will start up like there was never a problem. I think as many others have mentioned it is the security system not recognizing that I'm not stealing my own vehicle. I have tried taking the key out of the ignition and locking and reopening the vehicle using the unlock button on the key fob. After doing this it usually starts up again after 10 minutes of trying though. I have 64000 miles currently and have been considering trading in my H3X even though I really like the vehicle. I'm just tired of waiting for more maintenance issues as it gets older and more miles are put on it. I bought the Hummer brand new on 12/31/2009. After 7 years of owning it and babying it and servicing it at the dealership where I bought it, (Gold Coast Cadillac in N. J.), I'm truly fed up with this problem and GM's lack of response to their customers!

i used EFILIVE and deleted the VATS and fixed my issue. a lot cheaper and easier than dealing with the Stealership..

My H3 has the same passlock / 10 minute wait problem. This problem started for me about 3 months ago. I'm the original owner and have around 90k miles on my Hummer. I'm going to try this fix on YouTube; https://youtu.be/sehX42qSVuM Search "Ignition Lock Housing" for the part on rockauto.com

How long ago did you change the passlock? If that works long term I will definitely try that .

I had the same problem with my H3 not starting and having to wait ten minutes to start. I changed keys. I used my spare key and have not had the starter problem since! I use the key to unlock door also.

same issue here,my 2006 H3 will not start, wait 10.mins....starts up every time...ive tried everything...my key fob was lost when i bought my vehicle so i use my key every time so that trick does not work,i live in Florida so the cold is not the answer...im lost for answers????

Security does this on h3's, exactly a ten minute wait. Do not let anybody try to open a door until they are unlocked!

I had this problem too. You need to clean the key with cotton and alcohol, not to scratch, especially in the key cavity which will be black with dirt. Easy and no more problem

This same issue just happen to me. Didn't know what to do, figured lets reboot! Disconnected & reconnected the battery, and it started, of course it could have been 10 minutes while I was fiddling around getting the right wrench. I will pay attention to the time and pass lock light if it happens again.

Just need to clean the cavity of the key, because it is the part that accumulates more dirt, simple and easy. Good luck

Wow! Why didn't I google this earlier. I have a 2008 H3 Alpha and it did some weird things in the middle of the night about a year and a half ago. My alarm started going off and the lights were flashing. The cops came to my door all three times and the final time they helped me disconnect the battery. The next morning I went to get a new battery and they told my my battery was fine. I drove to the dealership and they ended up saying that my computer board needed to be replaced and of course it was not under warranty. The part alone was over 1K and then there was labor. It fixed that problem but about 8 months later the won't start problem started. I'm going to try some of these suggestions. What a pain.

Hi.....Ive got a 06, H3 with the same "not starting issue"........One of the posts stated to buy the a bypass module from New Rockies. I paid 300.00 plus labor and it only worked for a very short time. Ive also had the ignition switch replaced twice. So you may want to skip these two items....My truck just has a key and not a fob so thinking fobs arent an issue either....just thought I would add my two cents....Im ready to trade mine.....mine wouldnt start after picking up my grandson at a school on a military installtion. Had to have it towed again and held folks up trying to start their weekend.........Ive had to be towed 4 times now. Im very unhappy..... Good luck and be careful not to be put in an unsafe situation....

I had the same problem. The hummer won't start. But what I did was shake the hummer right and left to shake the gas in the tank to increase the pressure. Then started the car and it started.

I had the same problem, look at the key, it has a cavity on each side and it should be dirty and the computer has problem reading, so you should clean the key very well and good luck.I cleaned with alcohol and cotton

Guys. I am in South Africa. Having the same annoying problem almosy everyday. Ended up giving up on the car an now only drive it weekends. It is not weather is and this thing happens randomly

My 2009 Alpha does this. It was my understanding that the Hummer keys were not chipped, or so a dealer service man told me. I bought a second key and it was cheap so I am sure there is no chip in it. The cleaning of the switch may work but I haven't tried that yet. I really like this car but am disappointed it has this problem. An amazing number of owners have complained. I am not liking GM ignoring this defect. Surely there is someone out there that has found the fix.

I ran a wire directly to the starter solenoid so I could crank the engine but the engine still won't fire. I believe the problem is in the theft prevention system. GM outdid themselves with this. An antitheft so good the owner also can not drive the car. The 10 minute wait is just too much time to sit in a hot car even if you aren't in a hurry. Color me angry! If I can find a cure I will post it. Thanks all.

I'm DONE! 06 H3......Going to trade it in! I'VE DONE it all to include the 300 buck Rockies bypass system! I'm tired of having to be towed because several times it has been DAYS before it decides to start! GRrrrr

I quit using the remote and only have the drivers door programmed to unlock and lock at startup. I use the ignition key to lock and unlock the door. I have done this for a week now and no fail to start so far.

My 2008 H3 has just started doing this about 3 weeks ago. First time was in my garage, AAA came out because I thought it was a dead battery. The AAA tech jumped in the vehicle and turned the key and it started. Made me look like an idiot. He had the gall to ask me if maybe I didn't have the key in right! Yeah, after 8 years I forgot how to put the key in. Electrical checked out fine. Happened again 3 days ago after parking for about 60 seconds to run into the post office. Came out, wouldn't start. This time I waited about 10 minutes and of course it started. Drove right to my mechanic. They cannot replicate the problem. I know it's something with the security system, because for years when I press the "unlock" button on the fob, occasionally the horn starts to blow very weakly like it's dying. The dealer could never find out the issue. Now this no starting crap. My mechanic charged me $110.00 to run a diagnostic only to find nothing. I am considering contacting a class action lawyer to see if there is any interest in pursuing a suit to force a recall. There doesn't seem to be any guaranteed surefire fix for this from what I'm reading. And FYI it has nothing to do with cold weather. I live in Arizona and both of these instances happened in 100+ weather.

Thanks for your comment, GURU. I have had four 'no starts' in the last two months. I was not aware of this ridiculous problem when I bought my 2009 H3 Alpha. Found it out the hard way. If I had known, I would not have bought this SUV. I did become aware of the problems concerning the 5 cylinder engine so decided to get the 5.3 engine instead. I like this vehicle very much but the 10 minute wait is wearing on my reserve of affection. If I switch the engine off, remove the key, get out of the drivers seat while pushing the manual lock in, I can return to the vehicle, unlock with the key and all is well. I have my lock program set to only activate the drivers door. If I go to the back door and try to open it I use the remote and then when I try to start it the dreaded 'no start' happens. I am astounded that GM designed a so called security system that prevents the owner from starting his/her own vehicle with the key in hand. I may be lucky because my Hummer does not have the 'chipped' key which is another layer of 'security'. I am also chagrined to discover no one seems to have the fix for this problem. Maybe someday. Bringing a class action law suit over this is reasonable but the Hummers are at least 7 years old now.

Let me join the club, I have a 2006 H3 and I’ve recently started experiencing the exact same problem.

I have found the problem to be one of the wires to the fuel pump was shorting out. So the mechanic fixed it for me and now it's been working wonderfully.

1 people found this helpful.

Same problem, for a while not locking the doors worked. When that quit working I tried the quick release of the key when starting, that only worked once. After that I locked and opened the H3 every way possible but for 5 days no start. The 10 minute thing quit working also. Today I tried cleaning the key and it did start! Don't know what the future holds as far as starting but once I get it fixed I'm selling it! Call me tired.

I have a Hummer H3 09 and the same 10 min wait, it won't start problem. I replaced the batter and cables when it first started but obviously that was not the problem. I'm just sick of it. I contacted GM three years ago but they did nothing. There are thousands of us out there with the same issue. Hummer won't start; wait exactly 10 minutes and it starts right up. They should do the right thing and issue a recall to fix this problem. Thanks for listening, Tonya

Tonya, I also have an H3 that had the same problem. I had a New Rockies Pro bypass module installed and the problem is gone. I can start the Hummer any time I want. I was about to give on on this SUV but glad I didn't for I really like it. If you live close to Richmond, VA I will be glad to put you or anyone else needing help in touch of my mechanic. Keep the faith, there is a solution for your H3. Bob

Zencoast, if you still have your Hummer consider that the Pass lock isn't the only thing that will prevent your Hummer from starting although if it won't even try to turn over it is probably the Pass Lock. Very happy here so far with the New Rockies Pro module I have had on the vehicle for about a month now without any failures to start. Bob

Thank you, I'm gonna try the module and see if that takes care of the problem. It sure would be nice to know the vehicle was going to start every time without the 10 minute delay. Tonya

Properly installed, it will do the trick as it has for me. Your installation level of difficulty will depend on the location of the wires that have to be tapped into. My H3 wires are in the right kick panel and are in a pretty tight place. Too tight, in fact for my old 78 year inflexible body. lol. Peace and good luck. Let us know how it goes. There are so many folks out there with this frustration problem and that is my reason for trying to help. I am very disappointed with GM for putting this defective security system off on their customers.

Yes, I'm disappointed in GM too! I wish I could work on it myself but I'm talking to my mechanic tomorrow when he replaces a turn signal light on it for me. I'll let ya'll know if I get the module changed out and if it works. Thanks again for the great advice. Blessings to you and yours, Tonya

Just so you know, my mechanic/tech did this for $127.00. I was so pleased that I gave him $150.00. He does work on the computerized automobiles we must deal with now. I am sure it will fix the problem if he can install it correctly. Getting it working will be a good Thanksgiving Day gift for yourself. Happy Thanksgiving, Bob

Ive dealt with this problem on my 2007 H3 for years and did tons of research and finally got it fixed in my first attempt. In my case it was the Ignition Lock Cylinder. It cost just under $300 parts and labor. I'd advise not going to the dealer unless you want to pay twice that amount. I bought the part at AutoZone and took it to my local repair shop. It has started every time for the past 6 months since the repair and during several rainy days. Why the rain affects this device is unknown but I think the cylinder itself just wears out over time due to the constant weight of multiple keys hanging from the ignition. Keep in mind that your issue might be different but this is a good place to start. Good luck and let me know if this fix worked for you.

200

Well, Niko I hope the problem stays fixed. The Pass Lock system seems to start acting up at around 6 years. Possibly you won't keep it long enough for it to go as again.

40

Robbert, where did you get this part at? Link to it would be helpful as mine started to do it today.

1 people found this helpful.

Fireman_343, Just go online and Google the New Rockies web site. As Niko said in the previous post a new lock cylinder may fix the problem; at least until it malfunctions again. The New Rockies Passlock bypass eliminates that possibility. The model you need will depend on which security system is on your auto. Good luck. Robert

Oh BOY - just purchased a 2007 H3. Same "won't start" issue as if alarm has "shutter down". Has occurred in both warm and cool weather, and have had it only about a month! Bought a new battery today, even though the one in it tested "good", hoping this would solve the issue. Also, don't use the remote to lock it, and that seems to help. Think maybe this time it shut off because my boyfriend fell on the ice with keys in hand and it hit the remote lock button, because it was fine for a couple of weeks prior to. Next time, I will google make and model before buying a vehicle....didn't occur to me it would have a totally crazy, and somewhat unfixable issue - NUTZ! `/; ( ...and THEN there are those comments about it SHUTTING DOWN on the Hi-way - SHEESH! Have not yet BEEN on the hi-way - but def not reassuring when preparing for a vacation! `/; ( https://www.carcomplaints.com/Hummer/H3/2007/electrical/electrical_system.shtml Arggghhh!

If you read some of my previous posts, you will see I have bought and had installed the New Rockies Pro bypass module. It will fix the no start problem caused by the defective security system. The '10 minute' wait is caused by a defect in the original security system. It begins to do this and will do it more often as time goes on. The Pro module can be ordered online for about $270.00. Money well spent in my opinion. I haven't had a 'wait' for the last 4 months. It is sure good to know the engine will start when I turn the key.

Here is a solution that worked on my 07 Hummer H3. Same issue with a no start, but after waiting 10 minutes, it will start. In my case it worked and lasted until my battery went dead or if you disconnect the battery cables. Put your key in the ignition switch, turn to the ON position without starting. Leave the vehicle and wait 10 minutes and one second or more. Turn the key off and remove it. Put the key back in the ignition and repeat the previous step by turning to the ON position, again do not try to start the engine. Sit there or leave the vehicle for 10 minutes or more. Get back in, turn the key off and remove it. Repeat this process one more time, a total of 3 times and total 30 minutes. After the last time, turn the key off and remove it. You are now set to go. I did this the first time about 8 months ago with no problems. Took my Hummer to my mechanic for another issue and he drained the battery down, but did not tell me. After a few days it wouldn't start again. I just finished repeating the process again this morning. All good so far. This procedure will probably solve most or all of the no start problems if it will start up again after 10 minutes.

Do not use your key fob to lock doors. Lock the doors from the inside with the power lock on the door. Close door.use your key to open the door then put key in ignition and fire up. This bypasses the pass lock

3 people found this helpful.

Mine is starting to do it again. I always use the doors locks from inside to lock my doors whenever I get out. It still will not start on occasion, not a valid solution on all Hummers. Apparently, neither is my earlier solution posted here. Aggravating.

This may be a shot in the dark... but does anyone have this problem at the same time they’re having problems with sunroof leaking? Or cold? Does anyone have a fire sure answer?

Our 08 H3 sometmes dies while you are driving it and will not restart for about 5 minutes. It will crank but will not start. Anyone else with that problem???

Seems that locking the door with the key from outside on the driver's side and then unlocking it from the driver's door with the key bypasses the security system and will allow the vehicle to start

Hi Everyone-I have this problem for about 4-5 years now. I bought the New Rockies chip apparatus but could not find an installer. I called new Rickies and emailed without an answer so do not Buy this unless you check with someone who will install it for you. Now to the problem. I found out when you start the vehicle, let the key go very quickly. You will see that the engine will crank without you holding the key. I have learned to live with this problem, but GM should make it right. I have filed complaints with no avail.

Ok all some answers on this issue of needing to wait 10 mins and engine starts fine. 2006 hummer h3 first is to make sure your battery is in good condition if it is here is the problem. GM and its wonderful engineers gave us a security system called the passlock believe me i can think of a few more words to call this part, but i digress the passlock has a rod that runs up and into the key that rod when you slide the key in pushes on a button that tells the security system a key has been put in and it is the proper key hocus pocus your car will start now the part of the passlock is made so very cheap that i have even heard that moisture can cororde the terminals and the contacts on the inside of switch to cause it to not operate properly. The passlock is somewhat simple to replace on you tube there is a video to program the new passlock takes about 30 mins to program i get mine off amazon for about 55 dollars hope this helps

I have sorted out the engine stalling issue, at least on my 2009 H3 Hummer. I only does it after I fill up the gas tank; and it does it every time. It sputters and stalls for about 5 minutes then it is back to normal until the next fillup. I have no idea why (maybe gas tank pressure/vapor lock?), or the fix, but at least I see a pattern I can plan on. I also have the security lock issue and had the A/C resistor problem. No excuse for GM not providing a no charge recall on soooo many issues for soooo many customers...

its the crankshaft position sensor. $25 at autozone. its not your fuel pump, or antitheft. its the crank sensor located behind the starter. i just fixed mine, make sure the the flywheel isnt rubbing against it. if it is, you may have to put a spacer in the new sensor, real easy and cheap fix, you could do it yourself, just disconnect the ground on the batt. unbolt your starter, let it hang by the wires, use a 10mm rachet, wiggle the sensor back and forth so it doesnt break off, the. replace, real simple

It's the saftey feature I. The ignition sometimes it doesnt recognize the key you have to wait a full 10 minutes and then it should start.

2006 hummer h3 - the passlock (solid red light on the cluster). The truth is your chasing a ghost! Best advice get rid of the vehicle and never buy a gmc or Chevrolet! Since gmc never did a recall and gladly took everyone’s money hit them back with a no buy! I spent thousands at the Chevrolet dealerships! The hummer forum, you tube, they all have advice on how to fix, truth is there is no fix! Same goes for the sun roof leaks. The drain tubes shrink and come apart- another poor design! Listen up! There is a reason they don’t make hummers anymore.
