Taxes at dealers

Hi - I bought a car from one of your advertised dealers, Wheels and Deals.  
The were selling a 2007 Chrysler Aspen for 11,999 (I believe) in October
and I went to see it.  It was the only Aspen in the north end and so I didn't
see that it was out of the normal price range until you guys started sending
me advertisements for other Aspens a couple thousand less that were
further south.  Anyway, I went in and the price on the car was higher. . .like
13,999. . .I told them that the price on Car Gurus was less and they said,
Oh OK.  Well they Called it the sales price and then added the taxes and all
these fees bringing it over 15,000 I think.  So.  .today I'm looking for my
taxes stuff to file my taxes and I read that they are supposed to have the
sales tax within the ticket price. . .which to me was the 11,999. . .Is that not
right?  Now I feel even more ripped off if they were supposed to be
including the taxes in the price. . .what they basically did was charge me the
full price anyway. . .Anyway, any help would be appreciated.  My husband is
now really mad at them. If they stole money from me . . .If I get in an
accident, my full coverage won't give me the amount of money I paid I bet. .
.Anyway. . .thoughts would be appreciated.

You need to review your car sale's contract. Doesn't matter what they advertised or told you, it all comes down to the numbers on the sales contract that you signed. It should include the price of the car, the financing charges, taxes, title & registration fees, and other fees. Dealers love to give you a 'low' price for the car, but then pile on the fees, some of which are required by law like the sales tax, and some of which dealers make up like 'lot fees,' all of which becomes the total amount you finance. And if you have bad credit, those finance fees can themselves become staggering - unscrupulous dealers that cater to people with bad credit steer them to insanely high APR loans from unscrupulous loan originators, in which the dealer gets an upfront fee from the finance charges. So in short, look over your sales contract and see what they charged you.

I don't think insurance companies cover sales tax if your car is totaled or stolen. That would be your loss.

The taxes and fees cant be added to list price cause taxes are bases on where buyer lives.
