2007 cadillac dts power problem

Asked by Zagrats Oct 29, 2019 at 12:26 PM about the 2007 Cadillac DTS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 cadillac dts. Ran fine then when I went to start it, nothing. Zero power. Thought it might be battery so had a friend hook up jumper cables. Started right up. As soon as he removed his cables, went completely dead again. Battery? Alternator? Fuse? Any help appreciated.

Could be all three, the battery should be tested for is capabilities as far as load handling but it will need to be fully charged for that to happen, the alternator is computer controlled so if the computer is not turning it on there will be no charge getting to the battery, so that system as well as the alternator will need to be tested, the main fuses are right there close inside the power distribution box and will be obvious if one or more are blown. The bad news is if the voltage drops too low the computers can and will loose the factory presets and if this happens only the dealership can re-flash the computers.

Thinking about getting a mobile mechanic to come out and look at it. If the computer needs reflashed, can that be done after or does that need to happen at the time of work?

Usually after unless the ECM is totally fried in the charging circuit, then the dealer can flash a new ECM to the VIN. But be careful cause you could be paying more than the car is worth.
