2006 Malibu Maxx temp gauge and check engine

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Temp gauge not reading and check engine light
came on. Replaced temp sensor last week. Temp
gauge started working again. Cleared check engine
light. Today, check engine light back on and temp
gauge not working again.  Heater blows fine. Car
seems to run fine. Put a test light on plug at sensor
and light comes on with key in on position.
Suggestions?

Update. After hooking everything back up last night, this morning temp gauge working again. Assuming a loose connection or a broke/shorted wire.
