I put new points and new cole on a 1968 Bonneville
Pontiac and cant get the points to fire

Did you replace the condenser? How about the cap/rotor?

In addition to what F_O_R offered, did you loosen and rotate the distributor? If you did it will not fire properly either. As a starting point if you did, point the tower for the #1 cylinder at the #1 spark plug and see if it starts. If it does, even roughly, then adjust the timing to the proper position.

Yes, F_O_R, I forgot that. Its been a while since I had my hands on a "point" ignition system!
