My reverse lights come on in 1st gear but not in reverse does anyone know anything about this? Is this a simple fix or do i have to bring it to the transmission shop?

Try VWvortex forum, they know a lot of technical issues on their cars. I am willing to bet this electrical gremlin will be fairly simple for you to remedy. Do not waste your time bringing it to a shop -- at least not yet. The reverse light switch is a 2-wire sensor located on the top of your transaxle (transmission), but if you had your transmission replaced or otherwise worked on, your installer may have messed something up a bit.
