’88 Jetta CJG doesn’t start - engine gets flooded with gas. Suspect: ECCS?

Asked by doprea Feb 17, 2008 at 07:25 PM about the 1988 Volkswagen Jetta

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Out of the blue, my ’88 Volkswagen Jetta CJG(4 door, gas, automatic, 1.8 L, 178,000 km) does not want to start anymore. Engine got flooded with gas. I dried it and tried again but same result – the engine gets flooded with gas. Could be the electronic computer command system that regulates the fuel injection?

Thanks

It could be, it could also be the fuel pressure regulator. I would have this checked out by a mechanic, have a pressure test run, and have function of related sensors and computer checked to eliminate other possibilities.

Thank you, littlehorn. Does it have to be a VW specialist or any mechanic can run those checks?

Hello Doprea, my similar Jetta appears to have the same problem. What did you find out about the diagnosis on yours?
