are the door/ignition keys the same as the trunk, or are 2 keys required. looking at buying an 87, but trunk will not lock as the key with the car will not turn the tumblers

it depends, what does the key look like?..i know for a fact that with the Mk4's the flip keythats attached on the remote opens/locks the doors, rear seats, glove compartment and the trunk (as with most cars)..however there is a key that is just a metal key and i believe has is moulded into a VW sign is the valet key, which only opens/locks the doors and starts the ignition..but i honestly cant say that is the same for Mk3's, i can only guess cause all Mk3's and 4's use the Immobilizer II security systems.
