i bought an 81 vw pick up that was out of gas i [ut 3 gallons in it burned a gallon and put the other 2 gallons into my oil pan. once i found the gas was going to oil pan wat could cause that?

Pretty much the only ways fuel could get into the crankcase would be through 1) a mechanical fuel pump driven off the engine with a leaky diaphragm 2) extremely poor piston rings combined with incredibly rich injector spray. I'm inclined to think 2 would preclude normal operation as the byproduct of over-rich fuel air mixture is poor performance and a lot of smoke and noise. As an 81 model, I would have thought it to be fuel-injected and not dependent upon a mechanical fuel pump...but I may be wrong.
