1976 Beetle Cabrio

Asked by jaguarjoe Sep 13, 2011 at 11:16 AM about the 1976 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I can buy a 1976 Beetle Cabrio for $800. The guy sez it's only 1 out of 1000 special
units made with a Porsche engine. Could that be true and how do I verify this?
The car has quite a bit of rust, what should I be looking for to make sure I'm not
buying a piece of junk?
Are parts hard to find, like a new rag top?

Walk away. They did NOT install porsche motors in the beetle. there's your first clue to walk, second is rust. A little is expected, but alot on a 76 isn't worth the trouble.
