Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Thinking about buy a 1974 yellow bug in mint condition (saw it and is breathtaking) they want $5000.00 and with 76246 orig. miles on it.  Is it worth that much nowadays?

it's up there in price, but it's normal for a car a 1974 that is in perfect condition with original everything. The average price for a 74 is about $3500, but thats when the car is in only average condition. "high retail" (which means mint condition) is about $5,600. Make sure you upload pics so we can see what it looks like.

I bought a 1974 standard beetle last fall (sept) for $4,200. It is fire engine red, which may be a factory color, although my research there has yielded little. It appears to be an older restoration. There is virtually no rust underneath on the body pan. Some parts (especially window seals and vent window levers seem to be especially crusty and hard to move). The odometer reads 84,979 but it periodically stops at temperatures below 40 degrees, (I live in Denver,CO!). The individual I purchased the car from said he found it on EBay in Arizona, and paid 5 grand. What I'm trying to determine is whether or not I got a good deal, or was ripped off. I've had to replace the accellerator cable, adjusted the valves and done a fairly extensive brake job so far. The car seems to handle well, having after market anti-sway bars in front, and looks great. It also has almost new coker wide white side walls. Please let me know what this car is actually worth! I drive it to work every day unfailingly, and it seems to get somewhere between 23 to 30 miles to the gallon. It does not like cold!, I have to warm this car up a bit. unlike my previous '71 Super Beetle which plowed thru 2 foot snow drifts with enthusiasm,(with pan rusting out from under me!), anyway, any comments or input is greatly appreciated.
