what do I have to do to switch out a porsche engine and a volkswagen engine? And what modifications do I have to make?

I have a 1973 beetle that I am working on fixing up.  Eventually I want to swap engines for one that has a little more get up and go.  I know one is air cooled and the other is wter cooled, but both have the same mounting brackets, I just need to get some ideas on how to fix the radiator and water pump on the beetle when I switch them out.  Also will the tranny of the beetle work with the porsche engine?  Any insights would be greatly appreciated.  You can email me at rodeomattcowboy@yahoo.com.  Thanks in advance.

You will have to check the mounting bracket/bolt spacing on the engine and trans to be sure if they will fit. I would not be surprised if they will work out just fine.

Check http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/vw.htm Lots of info. T4 engine will required lot less modifications.

i had a 71 vw and we put a 914 porsche engine in bolted right up no changes of anykind.
