Should there be a noticable amount of axle movement that is allowable.

Asked by Guru61492 Mar 23, 2020 at 01:59 PM about the 1970 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced wheel bearings assembly on the
right rear of my 70 Beetle.  After tightening
the axle nut,  there is still some noticable
movement.  Should there be a certain
amount of movement that's normal?

Movement side to side or up and down? Movement in rotation?

I doubt 1/100" is a concern. If in doubt ask the seller of the bearings what the tolerance is.
