Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How do you remove the knob, next to the shifter, to install new heater cables in a 64 bug? I have the knob part off I just can't pull it out to install cables.

make sure you have turned the heater off (knob fully clockwise), then get under car and disconnect the heater cables from the exchangers. once they are disconnected, you should be able to take the knob off, and then take the assembly out. it won't come out with the heater cables connected to the exchangers!!

Chris, I can't even find were the cables come out in the back, but I do know they aren't hooked up to the flaps..

They should come out along with the throttle and clutch cables. They run thru the tunnel along with them. They may be hung up undergrowth the car. Once they are disconnected from the back you remove the knob inside, remove the keeper and everything should pull out.
