Motor for saving gas

I have an 86 grand wagoneer with 360 motor. I've
heard their not fuel efficient.  What other motor will
work. What do you suggest to upgrade the quality
of performance.

keep ignition wires plugs etc. , air cleaner , in top condition , change the oil before it gets black ,and drive like an old man on sunday , well maybe open the throttle up once in a while to impress girls or grand kids
