1989 Jeep Wrangler 6 cyl goes down road and just quilt without warning!

1989 Jeep Wrangler 6 cyl goes down road and just quilt without warning.  It will start right
back up with ignition and no punping of gas pedal.  If I do pump the gas pedal, it blows
out the muffler.  I am on my 4 muffler in a few months.

The initial problem is it just stops running as it is going do the road. Would that be a timing issue?
