Sounds like a coolant circulation problem. You may have air trapped in the cooling system. HTH. -Jim

How do you release the air

You may have a bleeder screw on the thermostat housing or at another point in the cooling system. If not, your mechanic should have a tool to pull the cooling system into a vacuum before refilling it. HTH. -Jim
