What type of engine coolant is required? The owner's manual specifies HOAT coolant, but I have not heard of this. Can someone explain?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I plan to add coolant to my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup.  The owner's manual
specifies HOAT coolant.  I have not heard of this. It appears to be a light red, maybe
orangeish color.  If I drain & flush, can I replace with the "pink" DexCool?

Mopar® Antifreeze/Coolant, 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (MS-9769), or the equivalent ethylene glycol base coolant with organic corrosion inhibitors (called HOAT, for Hybrid Organic Additive Technology) is recommended. This coolant offers the best engine cooling without corrosion when mixed with 50% Ethylene Glycol and 50% distilled water to obtain a freeze point of -37°C (-35°F).

Its all the same really. my 05 cummins came with the pink stuff, i used the green stuff to top it off after doing a thermostat, no ill affects. its just a way to rape you for money. itll evaporate before you get 5 years or 100,000 miles out of it.

Go with Zerex G05 it cheaper than mopar with the same protection. What Dan it will evaporate? You sure its not a leak somewhere you got. http://www.valvoline.com/products/brands/zerex/antifreeze/42

never mix the green with the red,you will be in troubel then,it is the mopar version of dex-cool,DODGE has its own type of collent for a reason, use what it says.

@andrew i had a bad head gasket and it was using coolant on cold starts i figured that out. but either way the green stuff is just flat out ethylene glycol and water, which is why its safe to mix with any thing.

dont mix them. use what what dodge recomends, they have spent a ton of cash researching works best in their engines. also mixing or switching to a coolant that doenst meet recomendations can lead to seals and gaskets failing, cooling system plugging.

ive had bad experiances mixing them if your flushing the whole system then use the green to refill its cheapest and from what ive found most effective but if it has the pink then top it of with the pink but dont mix them

Well not an answer yet, as I have come to find out myself what to use. will be first time. truck has been serviced by dealer since new. Bought maint. program at time of purchase. starting to smell anti-freeze in cab after start up. did not find leak, can't tell how much is in overflow bottle and rad. is full , but now that I'm here reading what is above, I will go with a radiator flush to hopefully solve my issue using what is recommended, the reddish/orange Mopar ms -9769.. Just so you all know, dealer never changed any rad fluid because of low miles on truck Still have some coupons left to use ,but warranty is done.My truck..2011 Ram 1500 SLT Crew cab, currently 31,740 miles as of April 2018. So considering it is an 8 year old, maybe its time to flush the radiator. Thanks for your help. The tires are also original, guess those could be next. Thanks for the forum and safe driving. amassofmolecules@gmail.com

If you smell coolant in the cab, it’s your heater core. Replace that and your problem will be solved.

Your truck specifies for G-05 but Dodge puts a die in the factory G-05 and it’s a trip when you refill the orangish-pink G-05 with gold colored G-05 like it comes out of the bottle the fluid will actually turn the pink color as you add it to the system because Dodge puts dye in there system.

Always use what the owners manual calls for saves time and money

Okay the orange coolant was placed in my 2005 Dodge Ram2500 5.7 Hemi gas. It pulls up as a newer study that the Prestone 50/50 Prediluted is the best recommendation for it. Just did loads of research in it for 2020 and it’s calling for it at all auto stores. The orange stuff was flushed and reused and then it cause several cracks in rad so I Ksealed it up and it’s fine. But this is the kind it calls for now. It’s green! But it also can be used in the yellow type too!
