What is required to fully transfer ownership of a car from parent to child when they live in different states?

Asked by HopeRose Jul 16, 2018 at 07:13 PM about the 1993 Ford Mustang

Question type: General

So my father, who lives in Michigan, purchased a
used car a few years ago with the intention of giving
it to me as a gift. I live in Rhode Island. I am flying
out to visit him with the intention of driving the car
back. What should I make sure he has done before I
pick up the car? Does a Michigan inspection
transfer to Rhode Island? What does he need to
have to show transfer of ownership? Do we need to
get any documents notarized?

Would have to see the paperwork first. But try taking it to the dmv on your way down for advice. Good luck
