Rattling sound under battery Stopping the engine from turning over

Asked by Jun 19, 2018 at 12:21 PM about the 1998 Volvo V70

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 98 Volvo S70 will crank but it seems like a rattling sound from underneath
the battery or air filter is stopping it. I started my car 2 days ago to this very
loud rattling sound. It died down after I immediately turned if off and popped
the hood to take a look. But I started it again and it was still there not as
loud. Drove and handled regularly but the rattling was still there. No
difference in volume of the rattling as a accelerated. No problem shifting
gears or with the radio or lights. But after 3 trips across town with it, I turn the
key and it trys to start up normally but it seems to stop because the rattling
sound.
