My car is valued at $3,500 (1998 Volvo S70). I need a timing belt and some other repairs. At what cost of repairs should I ditch the car and buy a new one.

if you could sell your car, you could unload it for an 850 and easily spend alot less on one with low mileage. timing belts on volvos are expensive as hell, but if yours is in good condition and you have the money, any volvo that was made before ford bought them (they bought in 2000), is a good reliable car.

find a back yard mechanic and he'll do it at ur house for half the price of a garage !

Is $5,000 a fair price for a 98 volvo S70 Sedan 5cyl fuel injected automatic? Has 203k miles BUT dealer recently replaced timing belt, brakes, battery, front tires, new valve job, timing belt w tensioner, water pump, radiator, heater hoses, ball joints and outer tie rods. Body is excellent and dealer will warrantee for 4 months. Dealer well respected for over 30 yrs..small family run business and sells nothing but volvos and works on them too. I see the kelly blue book is about 3,500 - 4,000. It's on his lot for 5,900 but will take no less than 5,000. A./C needs charging and ABS lite on..says he will fix. 2 Answers

Also meant to mention its fully loaded with leather interior. Appears he replaced the majore things...hoping I can get many more miles out of this...in this case is book value not a good guide given ...
