Why won't it shift into gear

Asked by Fleabird Apr 10, 2020 at 01:41 PM about the 2001 Volvo V70

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 v70 is stuck in park!!!! I have read all
the responses and  tried as many as i can. Due
to the pandemic that we are currently in, it is
vital that i get this thing moving to get our
monthly supplies.  Unfortunately, ( AS well as
fortunately)I  live in the mountains of northern
California and there is no option for a cab or
uber.  Can someone  please suggest  anything
that i can try.

A friend has a 98 z71 that had the same problem. I got stuck at a store. Anyway, i pressed the brake pedal on the right side & it went in gear. Try that...BDR

Try a patient little dance manipulating the gear lever (and button) at the same time as the ignition key on and off. It could be the ignition is the cause of the problem and in this way you might be able to encourage a release.
