How do I shut off the anti-theft in my 2000 Jetta?
My fob is not working and when I manually lock the car, the anti-theft goes
on, but does not turn off when I manually unlock. I changed the battery in
the car last night and now the anti-theft is on no matter if it is locked or
unlocked and the alarm goes off when I start the car. I cannot open the trunk
either (as I have read that disables the alarm) because the plastic piece that
moves the latch has broken.
When you changed the car battery, the car lost the code to the fob. there is a procedure for battery changing that is meant to prevent this; it's in the owners manual, available on line, just google your car. You now have to reprogram the car so it recognizes the fob, but this will be difficult as the car's anti-theft system is on, and it probably thinks it's being stolen. Best to have a dealer or locksmith come to you and do this for you. It's not cheap.
