Change from semi synthetic to full synthetic oil in a 03' Passat TDI.

Asked by Trevor Jun 12, 2013 at 11:23 AM about the 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have been using semi synthetic oil in my 03' Passat 1.9 TDI. Would it be a bad idea to
start using full synthetic oil now after a full engine flush? It is the recommended oil and
offers better protection for my diesel engine but Ive heard that its a bad idea to change
after using semi synthetic in an older engine.

I think you will be just fine. To change that is. For an expert opinion, Google "bobistheoilguy" he knows his stuff and explains things very well

Here's a liunk to the site that David mentioned -- http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/ ---- Congratulations David, I see that you are back up on top where you belong. I've been busy with other parts of life to give the Guru site as much attention as I used to.

And thanks but I don't know that is 'where I belong" but Thanks, really, and welcome back
