Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How many people out there are having a problem with oil sludge with 1.8 turbo motors? I think there should be a class action suit brought against vw in regards to this problem if it is as big as i think it is.

its not V.W. fault unless u are usin there oil....it depends on the oil u use ...u nd to run a good synthetic oil such as royal purple or mobil one...if u use cheap stuff thats what happen... u nd good thin no friction oil... sludge is caused because of oil breakdown, stop and go traffic and hot to cold quickly...so try diff oil...find one u like itll take several oil changes to get the sludge out , i recomend trying diff oil..

Oil sludge is a BIG issue with the 1.8t engine. I recently got rid of a 2002 1.8t Passat that started to give "low oil pressure" alert. If you have ALL of your oil change receipts...the VW Dealership will work with you on a repair. If you do not have all the oil change receipts...your stuck.

I've read about this issue multiple times and it really scared me. However, after 120,000 miles I don't have any problems with my 1.8t. It's just important to change the oil on time and use full synthetic. Also, VW has announced an extended warranty - if you blow your engine because of this issue, you get a new one even if your original warranty has run out long ago...

Find some "Kreen" sold over the internet by Kano. Its used in the crankcase with the oil and will get rid of sludge. Its not snake oil by any stretch of the imagination and works wonders.
