How do you lock the doors without setting the alarm?

Asked by kristie Jun 25, 2008 at 12:06 PM about the 2004 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I use the key chain lock it only locks the passenger door and not the drivers.  I usually just use the key from the outside to lock it.  Sometimes when I get back in to start it the alarm goes off and I didn't even know that the alarm was on.

if the driver door isnt locking then you need a new actuator for it...if both the doors unlock when you hit unlock on the key fob then try unlocking it with the key in the driver door and see if the alarm goes off when you try to start it... it might be a problem with the relay box for the door lock actuators

sounds like you need a new door latch. see if you dome light comes on when opening both doors, one at a time. if when opening the drv door the dome light does not illuminate, it is likely you have a bad latch. also you may have broken wiring in the door harness.
