Raidiator steam from top

Asked by May 13, 2017 at 08:30 AM about the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The other day, my car blew a hose in mcds drive
thru. The connector that 4 hoses connect to top
right of the motor had broke. Antifreeze blew
everywhere, it smoked and overheated. I
immediately pulled into a parking spot and shut it
off.  We got the new oart the next morning,
changed it, and it started, then putted and died.
Ended up having it towed home. After an hour, we
tried starting it again, amd it started but still wasnt
running right.  It sounded like it was missing a
little. We went and got spark plugs... Replaced 3 of
the 4, the one we havent got to is so hard to get to
u have to remove the intake to get to it! (my
husband is a contractor. not a mechanic, but basic
things like this, he can handle)  ok, now it is
running pretty good, but seems to have a small tick
noise... Not really a 'knock'... We just got the car a
week ago, i really dont know how it sounded then i
just know it ran like a dream. We filled it with water
and hoses all seem to be working fine and flowing.
But after we took it for a drive to try and see if it
would overheat, it seemed like the fan should have
came on as the temp gage reached half way and
ran at half way, to a hair under half way. But it never
got ant hotter than the half way point thats rhe
normal that it runs. After about 15 mins we noticed
steam coming from top part of the radiator... Not a
lot, but we shut it off when we seen it, worried to
cause damage. Coukd it be burning off antifreeze
that leaked when the hose broke? U can still see
pools of it from where it leaked. I planned to run
water thru while i drive to town to get tje proper
g12 pink antifreeze .. which is 10 mikes from my
house. Autozone and oreillys didnt have it, Napa
does. Should i drive it and see if it overheats, let it
sit running in my driveway at home and see if it
overheats, or what?
