2005 VW Beetle starts sometimes and other times will not start. Go back to car and it starts?

Recently, my VW Betle has not started and later I go back to car and try and it starts. Got new battery, new gear shift cable and mechnic seems to think it is alarm system. Just got out of shop yesterday, it started no problem- this morning went to store and tried to start it again-no start. Opened the car door and closed agin and tried - it started. what can be the problem?

i would say it would i have to be either ur crankshaft position sensor or ur alarm system. I just replaced my crakshaft sensor and when i started my car my alarm went off and it started bck not starting. So i am thinking its my alarm

in the relay box under the dash left side the relay for starter the contacts will go bad replace relay should fix the problem put your hand on the relay when trying to start it will click that's the relay it will be on top row about the 3rd from the right side
